What is the difference between the residential address and the service address for a director?

Directors are now required to submit TWO addresses to Companies House.

The first address is the director’s home address. This address is stored securely at Companies House and can only be accessed by government organisations, the police and credit reference agencies. You must provide your home address and not a business address. If you try to register a company with a business address as the home address Companies House will reject the application.

The second address is called the service address. This address is stored on the public register at Companies House. It is likely that when forming a company you will simply make the director’s service address the same as the home address. However, you may wish to use the registered office address, your business address, or a totally different address as the service address. This will prevent your home address from being displayed at Companies House.

If using a service address please ensure that the address is effective. You cannot use a PO Box, DX address or any false address.

If you do not want to use your home address as the service address you can purchase our directors service address. This will keep your personal details off the public register and away from prying eyes.

Please note Companies House processing times are an estimate only and not guaranteed.
