Where can I learn more about accounts and the financial aspects of a limited company?

Every limited company is required by law to submit accounts to Companies House on an annual basis. It is vital that you know when your financial year begins and ends and what deadlines apply for filing accounts with Companies House and the Inland Revenue.

FACT - All companies have to file annual accounts with Companies House. Yes even dormant companies have to submit dormant accounts each year.

FACT – Your company needs to file a tax return each year with HMRC or inform them the company is dormant.

Most companies appoint an accountant to assist them with the preparation and filing of tax returns and accounts. If you are not sure how to prepare accounts we recommend you contact an accountant during your first trading year to allow plenty of time for the accountant to work with you.

It is a director’s responsibility to file accounts correctly. Not knowing what to submit and filing deadlines is not an acceptable excuse for late filing. Your company may be issued with a penalty.
