What is Section 243 protection?

When you form a limited company your details are held on the public register at Companies House. Basic information can be accessed by members of the public including the directors’ service address. Credit agencies have access to more information including the company directors’ home address. This allows them to conduct credit checks when your company applies for bank accounts or credit facilities. Under Section 243 of the Companies Act you can restrict access to this information. This applies to individuals that are at risk of violence of intimidation due to the nature of the company’s activities.

If you believe you need to protect your residential address under Section 243 you will need to provide supporting evidence with the incorporation details. This may include proof of a previous incident with the police number. Evidence of threat or intimidation relating to the business. For more information on protecting your residential address you should contact Companies House.

Any company formation that applies to protect a director’s service address will be subject to additional administration fees and charges.

Please note Companies House processing times are an estimate only and not guaranteed.
