What is a registered email address?

From the 4th of March 2024 UK limited companies and LLP's are required to provide a 'registered email address' when registering a new limited company. This will be used by Companies House to communicate with the company regarding any important notifications. Below are key points to consider when providing the email address:

• The email address provided can be a personal or company email, it does not have to be owned by the company but the recipient of the emails should be able to act on them for the company or LLP. 
• The email address is private and will not be displayed on the public register so it will not be visible to any member of the public.
• The email address can be updated via Companies House webfiling service at any time and updates are usually processed within a few hours. You do not need access to the email address to change it at Companies House but do need to know your companies authentication code which we supply for all companies/LLP's we register.
• You will need to ensure the email address is monitored regularly to ensure notices are recevied and dealt with before any deadlines stated within the emails. 
• Companies House will still write to the company at the registered office unless the company/LLP have signed up to receive digital reminders only.
• It is lilkely Companies House will increase the use of digital communication once all companis/LLP's have supplied an email address
• Companies Incorporated before the introduction of the registered email on the 4th March 2024 will be required to provide an email address when filing their next Confirmation Statement. In theory by the end of March 2025 all companies/LLP's will have supplied a registered email address to Companies House.
