What do I do if my company name contains a 'sensitive' word?

If your company name contains a sensitive word or expression you may need to add supporting data to the application.

Many words used within a company name are protected by Companies House. You can find full guidance regarding this on our website. If your company name contains a sensitive word (e.g. DENTIST, CHARTERED, ARCHITECT etc.) you will need to provide supporting data before the company is submitted to Companies House. This means adding additional information with the company formation or uploading a letter of approval that meets the guidelines.

You can proceed with the formation of your company if you understand the requirements related to your company name. If you need assistance with a sensitive name application contact one of our advisors. They will assist you with the application and inform you of any additional fee for this service.

Failure to add the correct supporting data may mean that your company name is rejected. If this occurs we will assist you with the re-submission of the company. We reserve the right to charge for assistance with this if we need to add or upload additional documents to support your application.

Please note Companies House processing times are an estimate only and not guaranteed.
