How many shareholders can a company have?
In general there is no upper limit on the number of shareholders in a UK company. Many companies are registered with just one or two shareholders but you can issue shares to thousands of people if required. This would be highly unusual and we would recommend you seek professional advice before issuing shares to lots of people. You should also check your company’s articles of association to check for any restrictions.
Remember, in most circumstances, shareholders are owners of the company have rights to profits, voting and decision making. Only issue shares to people that you intend to own the company unless you change the rights attached to the shares.
Using Simple Formations you can create different share classes and add as many shareholders as you need. Vist our online company formation pages for more advice on registering your company with us.
If you are not sure whether to issue shares to someone or how to create different share classes we recommend you seek advice on your company formation.
