Do I have to have a registered office?

UK companies, LLPs, and PLCs must have an effective registered office address. Limited Partnerships have to provide ‘principal place of business’ which is similar to the registered office.

All registered companies and LLPs need a UK registered address. During the formation process you are required to provide an address that is declared as the ‘registered office’. This address is displayed on Companies House website for the public to view. Many other websites also collect this information for the purpose of selling company information. Using a search engine research your company name and see how many websites have your address displayed.

If for any reason your registered office is found to be ineffective Companies House may take action to dissolve the company.

Many businesses choose to use our address as the company’s official registered office. Please visit our virtual address services for help and advice.

Please note Companies House processing times are an estimate only and not guaranteed.
