Can I remove ‘Limited’ from my company name?

Limited by Guarantee companies can omit ‘Limited’ from the company if they have a not for profit distribution clause.

Guarantee (not for profit) companies can use the full word 'Limited' or the abbreviation 'Ltd' or Ltd. (with full stop). If you are using Mem & Arts with not for profit distribution clauses you can also opt not to include Limited or Ltd in your company name. This is allowed under section 60 of the Companies Act.

If you have selected to use our 'not for profit' Mem and Arts you will be able to omit limited from your company name.

Some guarantee companies prefer not to include ‘limited’ in the company name whilst others believe including ‘limited’ in the name clearly shows them to be a registered company. This is a choice for the members of the company.
