Can I change my company name after incorporation?

Yes, a company name can be changed any time after the incorporation.

Companies change their registered name for many reasons. Examples of this include:

  • Change of company direction
  • Rebranding
  • Sale of company
  • Error in company name
  • Name too similar to another business
  • Renaming a shelf company

These are just a few examples and not an exhaustive list.

Changing a company name can be quite simple. Using Companies House online filing you can submit form NM01 and change the company name in just a few hours. Alternatively you can file a paper version of this form.

Companies House charge an administration fee for all company name changes.

Any change of name will be recorded in the records at Companies House. You cannot hide this information from the public. However, for most companies this is not a problem. Many large companies have changed their company name in the past. In addition, customers do not normally go searching through Companies House records.

Simple Formations can assist with filing a name change application - please contact us for details. The process is normally completed in just a few hours and we will provide a Certificate of Name Change from Companies House once completed.

Please note Companies House processing times are an estimate only and not guaranteed.
